Web Page Software
HTML Editors
A dedicated Web Design Program
vs. Notepad (or other plain text editors):
There are a legion of web designers out there who refuse to
use anything but a plain text editor (like Notepad or SimpleText)
to create web pages. Some of them think web designers who
use visual web design programs (or WYSIWYG
"what you see is what you get") are weak, sissy,
baby designers because we're kinda cheating.
Screw 'em.
Joking, joking...but to these web conservatives, I say, "You
don't know what you're missing." Not only is a web design
program (or web page software) fun to use, but it's faster than handcoding &
helps keep your site organized, too. On top of it, using a
visual editor as opposed to a text editor lets you see the
design as you build. Invaluable, if you ask me.
My personal favorite web design software
I'm an Adobe Dreamweaver gal myself. I absolutely love it and have been using it for years. There's something actually fun about using it, which isn't a very technical description but it'll have to do. That said, as it's not the cheapest web page software around, but if you have the dough, it's definitely worth every penny.
If you're mostly in this to make money with your website and you're looking for something that does it all for you, check out XSitePro - This software does it all for you, automates creation in the simplest of ways. It automatically adds Adsense with an Adsense Wizard and ditto with Amazon links, also adds newsfeeds so you always have current content, adds sitemaps, etc. XsitePro allows you to start earning revenue right off the bat (which is it's main focus) so it's very popular among the Internet Marketer crowd.
Whatever web page software you decide to use
Standard wisdom is that you need to learn the basics of HTML
no matter what web design software you use. There's nothing worse than discovering
your site that looks gorgeous in Firefox but looks
insanely messed up on Internet Explorer, and then not know how to go
about fixing it.
